Description
Naples & the Amalfi Coast: At the Speed of Life
May 20 to 28, 2026
On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 20, our driver will meet us at Naples International Airport and take us into the city, our home for the first part of the week. You’ll settle into our centrally located hotel and, after a day to catch your breath, begin exploring Naples — photographing its vibrant street life, visiting its famed historic center, and tasting our way through its culinary traditions on a private street-food tour.
After several days photographing in and around Naples, we’ll make our way toward Sorrento, stopping en route for an immersive visit to Pompeii. The ancient streets, frescoes, and ruins tell a story of life interrupted nearly two thousand years ago — a photographer’s dream of texture, tone, and atmosphere. Our hotel in Sorrento will be our base for the rest of the trip, perfectly positioned for exploring the Amalfi Coast and its surrounding islands.
From Sorrento, we’ll board a ferry to the island of Procida, the smallest of the Bay of Naples islands, with its pastel-hued fishing village and harbor views that seem unchanged for centuries. A private boat will carry us along the Amalfi Coast’s legendary shoreline — sheer cliffs, hidden coves, and towns like Amalfi itself, seen from the best vantage point of all: the water.
Throughout the trip, we’ll blend structured photographic instruction with ample time to wander and discover your own images. Field sessions will focus on developing your personal visual approach, while group critiques at our hotels will give us a chance to refine technique, explore creative intentions, and deepen your connection to the places we encounter. With a maximum of seven photographers, you’ll receive individual guidance tailored to your goals.
On the morning of Thursday, May 28, we’ll have a private transfer back to Naples International Airport for your return home or onward travels.
Non-photographer companions are welcome and warmly invited to join the adventure — contact me for details.
Physical Activity:
All of the Italy Photography Workshop destinations require a fair amount of walking, hill-climbing and physical activity. You should be comfortable with being on your feet for up to three hours, often walking on uneven and possibly slippery surfaces. A typical day involves walking 3 to 5 miles and climbing/descending the equivalent of 10 to 20 flights of stairs. If you have any questions about the physical activity level of this workshop, please ask.
