– The Experience

A week inside

the color, chaos &
beauty of southern Italy

Some places you visit. Others stay with you. Naples grabs you by the collar — all energy and history — while the Amalfi Coast quietly pulls you in with its light, its sea, and its unhurried pace. Over nine days, Naples & the Amalfi Coast: At the Speed of Life will take us deep into both, creating space to connect with the spirit of the place and return with photographs that feel as alive as the moments themselves.

On the afternoon of Tuesday, May 18, our driver will meet us at Naples International Airport and take us into the city, our home for the first part of the week. You’ll settle into our centrally located hotel and, after checking in, begin exploring Naples — photographing its vibrant street life, the Spanish Quarter, its famed historic center, and tasting our way through its culinary traditions on a private street-food tour.

After several days photographing in and around Naples, we’ll make our way toward Sorrento, stopping en route for an immersive visit to Pompeii. The ancient streets, frescoes, and ruins tell a story of life interrupted nearly two thousand years ago — a photographer’s dream of texture, tone, and atmosphere. Our hotel in Sorrento will be our base for the rest of the trip, perfectly positioned for exploring the Amalfi Coast and its surrounding islands.

From Sorrento, we’ll board a private boat to the island of Procida, the smallest of the Bay of Naples islands, with its pastel-hued fishing village and harbor views that seem unchanged for centuries. Another day will find us on another private boat, which will carry us along the Amalfi Coast’s legendary shoreline — sheer cliffs, hidden coves, and towns like Atrani and Nerano – far less visited, but just as beautiful as the crowded “Instagram” towns.

Throughout the trip, we’ll blend structured photographic instruction with ample time to wander and discover your own images. Field sessions will focus on developing your personal visual approach, while group critiques at our hotels will give us a chance to refine technique, explore creative intentions, and deepen your connection to the places we encounter. With a maximum of seven photographers, you’ll receive individual guidance tailored to your goals.

On the morning of Wednesday, May 26, we’ll have a private transfer back to Naples International Airport for your return home or onward travels.

Mixed in with our explorations will be time spent on photographic instruction – both in the field and back at our hotel, where we’ll critique images, learn nuances of technique and vision and discuss our photographic intentions and how they inform your personal sense of the places we’ll explore together. Through ample time for image making, a blend of formal and field instruction and time for discussion and critique, we will work to uncover themes and lines of vision that may not have been previously evident to you.

I limit my groups to a maximum of 7 photographers to ensure a high level of personal instructional attention. Non-photographer companions are warmly welcome and count toward the maximum of 7 in the group. At registration you’ll find a double-occupancy room discount.

Non-photographer companions are warmly welcome. Contact Jeff directly for details.

The land cost is based on the current exchange rate between the Euro and US dollar. Should these rates change significantly, there may be an adjustment in the trip price.
